Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
