19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an better service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
