Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
